Obituary

Michael Tyrone Sellers, 34, of Houston, Texas, passed away on June 1, 2026. Born on February 25, 1992, at RAF Lakenheath Air Force Base, Michael lived a life full of passion, determination, and love that touched everyone around him.

Michael was the kind of person who never backed down from a challenge. Strong, tough, and incredibly smart, he had one of the biggest hearts you could ever find. He was always willing to learn something new, and that determination showed in everything he did.

His athletic achievements were nothing short of remarkable. In 2009, ESPNU ranked him as the No. 7 fullback in the nation, one of the top ten in the country. In high school, he was a two-time state qualifier in wrestling and a state champion in the shot put. His success carried into college, where he earned the Jacobs Blocking Award as one of the best linemen in the FCS conference and was named an All-American by the Football Coaches of America, The Associated Press, and The Sports Network.

Beyond competing, Michael poured himself into coaching football and basketball, investing in the next generation. He loved watching and playing football and basketball, and he had a deep appreciation for music, especially rap.

Of all his many accomplishments, Michael considered his greatest to be giving his life to Jesus Christ at the age of six. He now rests in the arms of the Savior he loved.

Michael is survived by his wife Janay A. Lakes, his two sons, Zyair Kobe Sellers and Yeshua Jaxon Sellers; his mother, Tammie Douglas; his father, Michael T. Sellers Sr.; his sisters, Nevada Sellers and Sidney Johnson; his grandparents, Pearlie and Earl Russell; his aunts, Joann Metoyer, Kathy S. Scott, Theodora Brown, Von L. Buckner, Vervette Sellers, and Ellen Sellers; his uncles, Adrian Scott, Steven Brown, Alford Buckner, Zachary Sellers, and Thomas A. Sellers; and a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Matthew Douglas, Thomas Sellers, and Francina Sellers, and his uncle Arthur Sass.
